Makey Makey Workshop
Turn everyday objects like bananas into touch-sensitive piano keys using a Makey Makey kit.
What happens
We use a Makey Makey kit to turn everyday objects (bananas, playdough, foil) into touch-sensitive controls that trigger sounds, music or simple game inputs. Participants connect the kit up, see how the circuit works, and then get stuck into building their own musical or game-controller invention.
The session covers the basics of circuits and how to code the Makey Makey, but most of the time is spent experimenting with different objects and sounds rather than sitting through explanation.
Benefits
It’s a low-pressure way into physical computing and circuits: there’s no screen full of code to be intimidated by, just objects that suddenly make noise when you touch them. It works well as a first taste of digital making for people who wouldn’t necessarily sign up for a coding workshop.
