Treat all people equally with respect and dignity.
Share information appropriately with others and recognise that there are times when confidentiality is essential.
When planning any public event, ensure that risk assessments take into account the safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Know how to report any concerns about abuse or poor practice.
Keep up to date with your training, qualifications and insurance.
4. Procedures — What to Do
4.1 What to do if you suspect a child, young person or vulnerable adult is being abused
If you suspect that a child, young person or vulnerable adult is being abused, you should seek advice from the Designated Safeguarding Person who will help you decide what further action should be taken.

Listen carefully but do not press for information.
Don’t ask about explicit details.
Reassure but do not promise confidentiality, explain that you will have to share this information with other professionals who will help.
Let the person know what will happen next.
Make a full and written record of what was said as soon as possible, using their own words (see Safeguarding Incidents / Observation Log).
Inform the Designated Safeguarding Person straight away.
4.3 What to do if you have witnessed a child, young person or vulnerable adult being abused
Seek medical advice if required.
Make a full and written record of what you have seen as soon as possible (see Safeguarding Incidents / Observation Log).

All suspicions, allegations and disclosures of abuse must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Person, or in their absence, to one of the other Directors (see section 8, Contact Details).

If you have any concerns that this guidance is not being followed you must contact the Designated Safeguarding Person or one of the other Directors.
