Digital Drop In
Free, informal help with technology. No appointment needed, just pop in.
What happens
smartphones and emails to online banking or just getting more comfortable with a computer. There’s no need to book: people turn up, bring a device if they have one, and our team works through whatever they need at their own pace.
What comes up is whatever people are actually dealing with that week — a form that won’t submit, an app the council now expects them to use, a text message that looks like a scam, or a question prompted by something on the news the night before. We answer the question in front of us first, then show people how to do it again themselves.
It’s a relaxed space built for asking questions without feeling silly about it, whether that’s a single query or a first go at something new.
Benefits
It reaches people who’d never sign up for a course but will happily ask a quick question in passing. Working one-to-one and at each person’s own pace means nobody is left behind trying to keep up with a group, and confidence builds session by session rather than all at once. Because the sessions are regular and in places people already go, they also become a reliable point of contact — the same faces come back with bigger questions, and staff on site start pointing people our way.
The details
- Who it's for
- Adults of any age and any level of experience. No booking, no prior knowledge, and no need to own a device.
- Staffing
- 1 or more people from our team, plus optionally a young person on placement
- We bring
- Everything needed to run the session: a table sign and the necessary disclaimer paperwork, nothing for you to source
What people get out of it
-
One-to-one, at your own pace
You get someone's full attention for as long as your question takes, rather than a room all working through the same thing.
-
No question too small
The session is built so nobody feels daft asking. Most start with something a person has been carrying around for weeks.
-
Confidence, not just a fix
We show people how to do it again themselves, which is why the same faces come back with bigger questions.
