This July, fourteen girls aged 13–18 took part in Girls: Designing Our Space a four-day programme giving young women hands-on experience in shaping the parks and public spaces in their own communities.
Over the four days, the group moved from consultation and community-design exercises through to drone-skills training at Coalshaw Green Park in Chadderton, alongside career conversations with industry experts in building surveying and technology. It’s exactly the kind of work we care about at Inclusive Bytes: opening up tech and design skills to young people who don’t always see themselves reflected in those industries.
The project was a collaboration led by First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) with Ridge LLP and Fullcircle nw CIC, and we were proud to support it. As Ridge LLP’s Chloe Melvin put it, it’s “a project that gives girls the opportunity to explore drone technology.”
Huge congratulations to everyone involved and to the fourteen young designers who brought their ideas to life.
