A hands-on LEGO workshop where participants tackle build challenges that put engineering ideas into play.
What happens
A table loaded with LEGO bricks and building sets, with a series of design and construction challenges set out: the tallest tower that will stand on its own, a bridge that holds weight, a simple machine that actually moves. Participants work alone or in small teams, testing ideas, rebuilding when they fail, and comparing what worked.
We talk through the engineering as we go, why a structure holds together, what makes it topple, how gears, levers and pulleys turn a build into a machine, so it is proper engineering thinking, not just a box of bricks.
Benefits
It turns trial and error into the whole point of the session, so getting it wrong first time is normal rather than something to hide. Working in teams gets people talking through a problem together, and there is a finished build at the end that participants had a hand in designing themselves.
