Oldham College Hackathon

On Thursday 7th December we had a great afternoon at Oldham College doing a hackathon with first year IT students. The title was “Tech for Good” and it was all about using digital technology to create positive social change. We asked the students to create a technical solution that addresses a specific challenge that could be faced by a Social Enterprise and they came up with some fantastic ideas.

Each team presented their concept to us and we were impressed with the high standard of their work, the problems they identified included maintaining data, engaging funders and sticking to a budget.  It was difficult to choose a winner but in the end we awarded the top prize to the team that designed a budget tracker – not only was it a great idea but they had used their coding skills to actually create a working version of it!

This was our third hackathon at Oldham College and we always enjoy taking part, well done to all the students and thanks to Oldham College for having us!
